Found a Stray?

Many people call us weekly, saying they have found a stray dog and would like to drop it off at The Ranch. While we’d love to say “yes, drop them off!” to everyone, we are required to act in accordance with the law.

Please see steps to take below.

Stray Dog Checklist

To stay in compliance with local laws, here is what to do:

  1. Contact The Owner

If you have found a stray dog, please check to see if the dog has a collar with a name tag or phone number on it. If the dog does have a collar or name tag, please try to contact the dog’s owner.

2. Check The Microchip

If there is no collar or name tag, take the dog to a local veterinarian or shelter so they can scan and see if the dog has a microchip. If the dog has a microchip, the shelter or the veterinarian will call the microchip company to locate the owner.

3. Get In Touch

Please keep in mind that our mission is to rescue as many dogs as possible. We rescue as many as we can, but by law, all dogs found must be taken to a local animal shelter to give their owners time to find them if they are lost. Please feel free to contact us with the dogs intake # but know that this does not guarantee we will be allowed or able to rescue the dog.

We are able to accept pets from the public on a very limited basis. Please send us all information, and how you are able to help/contribute, and your request will be reviewed.
